Town Hall Addresses Pro-Life Issues
___On April 11th, the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation held a Town Hall Meeting in Ebensburg in the church hall of Holy Name Church for the 10 county region of Citizens Concerned for Human Life. ___Executive Director Michael Ciccocioppo and Education Director Maria Vitale presented an overview of what is happening in the pro-life movement during their five-day, ten-city, tour of Pennsylvania using Town Hall meetings to help grass root pro-lifers be informed. ___The town hall meeting addressed a number of pro-life issues, including health care reform, the U.S. Supreme Court, Planned Parenthood, ultrasound legislation, medical rationing for seniors, and the latest developments in pro-life legislation.
___Abortionist, Kermit Gosnell, of Philadelphia, charged with eight counts of murder at his West Philadelphia abortion clinic, the Women’s Medical Society, headlined the discussion as pro-lifers learned that abortion mills in Pennsylvania have had a free reign of no enforcement of regulations during the last 17 years. ___The good news is that Gosnell's "House of Horrors" as a Philadelphia grand jury report called it, has prompted attention to lobbying efforts "for legislation that will provide stricter scrutiny of abortion facilities and their staffs. The Gosnell case is truly a wake-up call for Pennsylvania,” Ciccocioppo added. ___After the presentations, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions on any pro-life topic and to make suggestions on new initiatives that they would like to see the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation become involved in in the future. All ideas will be considered during an upcoming strategic planning meeting of the Federation.

Several months ago the Alan Guttmacher Institute released the news that for the first time the not-for-profit Planned Parenthood had exceeded $1 billion in revenues. The report also stated that revenues exceeded expenses by $100 million, which equates to a return on revenue in the neighborhood of 10%. I’ve noted that while corporations such as Exxon-Mobil (7.6% return on revenue) are criticized for excessive profits, a not-for-profit organization such as Planned Parenthood can make 10% without public concern.
Some of the other information released by the Alan Guttmacher Institute indicated that while referrals for adoptions at Planned Parenthood have been steadily decreasing (to fewer than 2,000 yearly) abortions done by Planned Parenthood clinics have steadily increased (to more than 265,000 yearly). What is significant about the abortion numbers is the very high number of abortion procedures done on African-American women. That is not really surprising when it is noted that approximately 80% of all Planned Parenthood abortion clinics are located in minority neighborhoods. The fact is that of the $1 billion of Planned Parenthood revenues over $300 million was provided by the federal government and states such as Pennsylvania. What is really ironic is the fact that President Obama and most if not all, of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus support government aid to a billion-dollar organization that targets African-Americans. The result in Pennsylvania is that fully 40% of all abortions are done on African-American women while African-Americans constitute less than 15% of the population of the commonwealth. African-American women have a national rate of abortions that is five times that of white women. I believe that this is black genocide, pure and simple.
Given the strong beliefs of the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, I guess that we should not be surprised. Margaret Sanger was a eugenicist. She believed that the mission of Planned Parenthood should be to constrain the propagation of those believed to be inferior in intellect and to encourage those considered to be superior to have more babies. Under Margaret Sanger’s leadership Planned Parenthood encouraged sterilization, birth control, and even abortion (before it became legal) in order to carry out her views. Now, with abortion considered a constitutional right, Planned Parenthood emphasizes abortion as the most effective way to reduce the number of babies born.
This past week Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) introduced an amendment to the Health Care Reform legislation now being considered by the United States Senate. This amendment would require abortion services to be covered under the reform legislation; thus using taxpayer provided dollars for these services. If you disagree with this you should let our two senators know.

January 22nd, 2010 was the 37th anniversary of the two U.S. Supreme Court decisions that erased all individual states' laws restricting or outlawing abortion. Since that day our nation has put to death an average of 3,600 babies each and every day.
This year there were 55 people who rode our March for Life bus from Bedford County. It was estimated that over 250,000 people gathered on the Mall in Washington to march to the U.S. Supreme Court in opposition to those disastrous decisions and to implore the nine justices to overturn the ill informed decisions made in 1973.

Finally, federal funding to research that requires the destruction of human life, embryonic stem cell research is in danger of being implemented on a grand scale during the Obama administration.
The media generally reports that federal funds are denied for all stem cell research. That is false. Hundreds of millions of federal dollars have been authorized for adult stem cell research, which does not require the killing of a human embryo, does not present rejection problems as embryonic stem cell research does, and has been successful in treating hundreds of thousands of patients in 73 different treatment areas.
The big news is that in November of 2007 two different groups of scientists discovered how to make ordinary adult skin cells "behave" like embryonic stem cells in the sense that they have the capability to change into every other cell in the human body.
Our hope is that this new discovery will turn researchers, investors, and the media away from costly and unsuccessful embryonic stem cell research, which requires the destruction of human embryos.
Every biologist knows that it is a scientific fact that a human embryo is a human being and yet the U.S. has no laws against embryonic stem cell research and very limited laws on cloning.

If your representative has voted pro-life or cosponsored a pro-life bill, call him or her and thank him. Let them know that you appreciate their pro-life votes, remind them of your pro-life ideals, and encourage them to stay the course.
If your representative has not yet cosponsored a pro-life bill, ask him to.
If your representative has voted against life, let him know your dismay. Express the life facts and citizen responsibilities surrounding the issue.

If he or she has cosponsored a pro-choice bill, learn the facts and ask him to reconsider. If you know that your representative is pro-choice don't bring up a pro-life argument that is likely to be dismissed.
For example, being pro-life you know that embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) kills a human being. Currently, legislation is before Congress, not to make it legal, it already is, but to fund it! When you call or email your representative, tell them that you consider ESCR failed research that has been marketed on the hype of "potential" and that it is a waste of your tax dollar.
Get specific. · Tell your representative that after 25 years of research, there has been NO successes - not even ONE! Point out that Adult stem cell research has helped hundreds of thousands of people in over 70 areas of treatment including Parkinsons and that you would like to see funding of successful research. · Point out that the Bio-Tech industry has gone through billions of dollars from private investors who are reluctant to invest any more. The Bio-Tech industry is literally banking on the hope that legislatures will not see pass the pro-life/pro-choice controversy to find out how much has already been spent on this failed research. · Point out the deceptions that the Bio-Tech industry is using to keep the false hope of "potential" alive: · It is true that Embryonic Stem Cells (ESCs) grow into every type of cell in the body. We are all living testimonies of that. However, ESCs have only done so in the womb! - NEVER in the laboratory! · It is true that ESCs grow much faster than Adult Stem Cells (ASCs). However, ESCs grow uncontrolably fast have only ever turned in tumors many of which have been cancerous. ALL laboratory animals injected with ESCs have died! · Point out that if ESCR should ever have a success, cloning will have to be implemented in order to deal with rejection problems.

The term "all men" has always meant "all human beings" and it is a biological fact that an embryo from a human being is a human being. So, "all men are created equal." The debate is, "When are men/human beings created?" Biology says from the moment of fertilization. Is it greed, arrogance, or ignorance that keeps some people from following such simple logic?
