About the Second Film

Volunteers Needed

History

In March of 2008, our special group of volunteers (called the "Mama's Plan" Film Group) completed our first film, which was educational in nature. We then began distributing it to various schools, agencies, and organizations all over the country.

Our main target group was the young teenaged girls who became pregnant out of wedlock and did not not know what to do. Our objective was to discourage them from abandoning, discarding, or harming their newborn babies. Our film was not political, and it was not about abortion. It was a film that gave these girls options and alternatives.

We constructed a "Special Presentation" segment, which had important features that discussed the "Safe Haven" laws, child abuse and teen prostitution. At the end of the film, we cited many places that viewers could contact for help. The first film was not meant for the older crowd, but it was designed to attract the young girls who are at risk, and to scare them straight. We purposefully ended the film in a very srong and powerful way, and we felt that that way whoever would watch it would definitely not hurt their baby in any way.

We are proud to say that we have already helped many people in numerous ways. We have also conducted many interviews (via telephone) to radio stations in Ohio and in other states, and we did many local t.v. shows as well. We explained to our listeners that if a girl could not keep her newborn baby, she could surrender him/her to any ER station in a hospital, or to a police or fire station, without risking prosecution. This is what the "Safe-Haven" laws can offer, and now the time in Ohio has been extended to a month in which a baby can be surrendered to those specific places.

I N T R O D U C T I O N
Hi there. My name is Esty Crissman, and I am so glad that my vision for the film, “Mama’s Plan”, has become a reality. I had many obstacles along the way, but it is a miracle that I am even here, to see this film helping people all over the country. Even though I am seriously ill and disabled, I am very passionate about the young girls who do not know that they can get assistance, if they have an unexpected and unwanted baby. We hear horrible stories weekly on the news about young girls who do terrible things to their newborn babies. This is an epidemic that must be stopped! We all agree that there are too many options for these girls, and they DO NOT need to harm their children!

In 2005, I heard about the girl who placed her baby boy in a trash can, in Tower City, Cleveland, and left him to die. This was so horrifying, and as a songwriter, I knew I had to address this issue in some way. I began by writing the title song for the film, and it was recorded on February of 2006.

Then, I realized that this was too heavy of a subject for just a song, so the idea of an educational film came to mind, and I proceeded with finding people to join our group. Many were interested in the cause, and I enlisted the help of a few people who worked on the computer to locate many actors, actresses, crew members, etc. I worked numerous hours on this project, and sacrificed a lot for it.

I wrote the story, and met with people in my home, to rehearse them. This was a huge endeavor, but after two years, we completed this film, in March of 2008. Our Gala Premiere event on April 4, 2008 was very successful, even though I was too ill to attend. This was my first screenplay.

Fortunately, Tim Conway and William Alexander (two area producers) helped me with ideas, and after six months, the manuscript was ready. It was hard to find a young man to play the role of "Charlie", but after much perseverance, he appeared, and away we went. This is a film that will touch people’s lives. I have not received any money for all my efforts. I did not want or expect any compensation!

With my past studies in social work, music education, and some journalism, I felt that I would be able to produce this film, and I am so thankful that I did. I also wrote and published two articles. One is called "Throw-Away Babies", and the second one is called "Babies Having Babies."
