History Esty's Background Hello. My name is Esty, and I reside in Akron, Ohio. I would now like to introduce myself to you. I was born and raised in Israel and life was very hard there. I am the only girl in the family and I have two younger brothers. I used to be extremely shy and insecure and did not like myself. We traveled most of my life, since my father is a linguist, and this constant uprooting was quite difficult for me. I went through a lot emotionally, so this caused me to express my feelings by writing poetry and short stories. In 1967, my father fought on the Golan Heights in the Six-Day War. I’ll never forget the whole ordeal! When he safely returned, he told us that we would be moving to the United States. It was hard to leave the only home we knew, but we arrived in Wisconsin in the fall of 1967. We did not know English. Our clothes, habits, and customs were very different, and the American children ridiculed us. In the wintertime, we had to get used to the 20 below zero temperatures. In Haifa, Israel, we enjoyed the 60 above 0 temperatures all year long. It was a real shock! I had started piano lessons in Israel, at age 9. At age 13, in the U.S., I began writing classical musical compositions. In 1969, we moved to Hartford, Connecticut, and I entered Hartt College of Music. After six years, we moved to Akron, Ohio, and I went to Akron University majoring in music, and also social work. I found opportunities to teach voice and piano. I was successful with my studies, but I was not emotionally healthy. I started searching for a mate. I was very confused at the time, and I wanted something to believe in, someone to hold onto. I met a young man at the university, and after a short time we got married. I really believed that his would cure my loneliness. We had a son by the name of Avi, which in Hebrew means “my father.” I then decided that since I loved music so much, I wanted to join a musical group, and perform in many places. So, I answered an ad that I saw in the Akron Beacon Journal. I spoke with a young man by the name of Wayne Davis, and he began witnessing to me and sharing his faith with me. He told me how God loves us unconditionally and at this time in my life, I needed to hear that. I found this whole thing very interesting and very inspiring, and he read some scriptures to me from the Bible. I knew that I was empty inside, and was in need of someone greater than I to help me and guide me. I finally made a decision to surrender everything to God, and HE has been the one to see me through all of my illnesses, trials, and tribulations. He will never leave me or let me down! Since then, much has happened in my life, and I have been able to share my story and my faith with many on radio and television. Unfortunately, at this time, I am totally homebound and cannot leave my home, but that does not stop me from telling people about my faith, or accomplishing many goals. In 1998, I encountered a tragedy, when a doctor made a mistake and prescribed a medicine for me, which almost killed me. Since then, I have had numerous health problems, and there were many times that I almost died. However, God has been so good and he has given me endurance, patience, strength, and much grace to withstand many bad circumstances. In September of 2003, I met Brian Park, and together we have written songs. The name of our duo is 'Promiseheart'. Some time later we decided to produce “Mama’s Plan.” Even though I can no longer get out or perform, I am still content knowing that the projects I do help many people.
