How to Pray the Rosary Meditate on the Mysteries of the lives of Jesus and his Mother Mary.
Start by telling Jesus and Mary your special intention. If you would like, you can be led in praying the rosary. Just click below on the Mystery you would like to pray. THE SIGN OF THE CROSS With the crucifix in your right hand, make the Sign of the cross on your forehead, over your heart, left shoulder, and then right shoulder, while praying: In the name of the Father (forehead), and of the Son (heart), and of the Holy (left shoulder) Spirit (right shoulder). Amen. While still holding the crucifix, pray: THE APOSTLE'S CREED I believe in God, the Father the Almighty, the Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen. Read more on the creed. On the first single bead, pray: THE LORD'S PRAYER - THE OUR FATHER Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. Amen. On the next three small beads, pray: THE HAIL MARY Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee; Blessed art thou amongst women, And blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen. On the chain or rope between the 3 beads and the next single bead, pray: THE GLORIA PATRI - THE GLORY BE Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. After the Glory Be, pray: THE PRAYER OF THE CHILDREN OF FATIMA O my Jesus! Forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven especially those in most need of Thy mercy. The single bead before the medal begins the first decade. Announce the first Mystery. For example: "The 1st Joyful Mystery; The Annunciation, the Archangel Gabriel announces the message to the Virgin Mary that she would be overshadowed by the Holy Spirit to become the mother of Jesus, God as a human being, upon her affirmation." Reflect on the particular event in the lives of Jesus and Mary as you pray each decade: The Lord's Prayer - the Our Father on the single bead, 10 Hail Marys on the 10 beads, and the Glory Be and the Fatima Prayer to end your meditation on that Mystery. Continue praying the other 4 decades. At the end of the Rosary, pray: SALVE REGINA, the HAIL HOLY QUEEN Hail! holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To Thee do we cry, the poor banished children of Eve; to Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in the valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed Fruit of they womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us Oh Holy Mother of God that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen. Some people also pray: O God! Whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the reward of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that, meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. May the divine assistance remain always with us. And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen Some people also pray: THE PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Amen. How to pray the rosary: The rosary beads have 5 sections called decades: a single bead and 10 beads grouped together. The Lord's Prayer is prayed on the single bead. The Hail Mary is said at each of the 10 beads. The Glory Be followed by the Fatima Prayer is said after the 10 Hail Mary's before the next Mystery, which starts on the next single bead. While praying the prayers for each decade, meditate on the Mystery for that decade. There are 4 groups of Mysteries: the Joyful Mysteries, the Luminous Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, and the Glorious Mysteries. THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES To be said on Mondays, Saturdays, the Sundays of Advent, and Sundays from Epiphany until Lent.

His institution of the Eucharist, as the sacramental expression of the Paschal Mystery THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES To be said on Tuesdays, Fridays throughout the year; and daily from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday 1. The Agony in the Garden (we pray for true repentance) 2. The Scourging at the Pillar (we pray for mortification) 3. The Crowning with Thorns on Jesus' Head (we pray for moral courage 4. The Carrying of the Cross (we pray for patience) 5. The Crucifixion and Death of Our Lord (we pray for final perseverance) THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES To be said on Wednesdays, and the Sundays from Easter until Advent 1. The Resurrection of our Lord (we pray for faith) 2. The Ascension of Jesus (we pray for hope) 3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit on Mary and the Apostles (we pray for zeal 4. The Assumption of Mary into Heaven Body and Soul (we pray for a happy death) 5. The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth by her son Jesus (we pray for love for Mary)
